Buying Beds For Children

Take 10 minutes to sit down and do some online research about children’s bedding, whether it’s bunk beds for kids or crib bedding, and you will quickly realize just how out of  hand this market has gotten.  One of the worst misnomers that I have heard is that “more choice is always better.”  Of course, in an ideal world this would be true; companies would never cut corners in their manufacturing processes and each product would bring something valuable to the table.  In the real world, this could not be farther from the truth.  Many fly by night companies are popping up and producing children’s bedding products at remarkably low prices, bolstered by unregulated manufacturing and design standards.

So how do you, the new parent, navigate the floodwaters of terrible products in order to find those few items that truly deliver quality?  While there will never be a perfect answer to that question, you can at least try to heed two general and easy to understand principles that every diligent consumer should understand:

  • If you have little to no experience buying baby related products, make it easy on yourself and go find people who have been at it for a while.  Sites like families[dot]com offer incredible value in the form of free user forums where parents can congregate and chat about their favorite products.  Looking for the perfect baby girl bedding set, but don’t know where to start?  Check out these sites to get a head start on making your choice in an informed way.
  • Next, you can do a lot of filtering of bad products simply by staying away from no-namer brands.  Stick with the the tried and true labels like JC Penney Kids, at least for the first couple of years while you learn about what makes a good product!
