Those who attend college on a full time schedule are going to have issues with money, or the lack of it (unless you were born with a Silver Spoon in your mouth). Keeping that full time schedule can be difficult, and it doesn’t leave a lot of time to be able to work a job. One must try and be as careful as possible with whatever money they have. The following are some tips and ideas on ways to save money in College.
Today–Start Saving Money
Without a doubt, whatever one can put aside before they begin their student life, will be a huge asset moving forward. If one is working at this time, there goal must be to try and put aside as much as they possibly can. One should look at it very simply. As an example, they should be determining how many weeks or months they have left until school begins, the very most they might save every week, and multiply it out. If someone can scratch out $1000-$1500 to get started with, that will help their money stretch a long ways and work toward keeping them from relying on student loans.
Keep Expenses To A Bare Minimum
If at all possible, one should try and hook up with one or more roommates with whom they can share equally their living expenses at school. This is a huge factor and one that must be actively pursued. There will be different venues at school to help people out with these efforts.
The roommates must then all make a conscious commitment to keeping lights off and thermostats drastically reduced when they are not necessary to be in use. This of course is based on utilities not being included as part of the rent.
Destroy All Credit Cards
One should not use credit cards at all unless it is an emergency situation in which they cannot avoid. If a card must be used, every effort must be made to pay the entire balance at the end of the month when it becomes due.
Get On Public Transportation
This is an easy one. A car is a luxury that isn’t really affordable at this time. One should rid themselves of the car, get used to walking and using whatever public transportation is available.
Get Started Cooking
So much money can be saved by cooking for oneself rather than eating out at restaurants and fast food places. Yes, it takes a bit of extra effort, but the results are certainly worth it.
Locate A Part Time Job
Two good things happen when a person secures part time work. The first is that they are bringing extra money in, and the second is that they have less time to spend.
Basically, it all boils down to using one’s head and exercising good common sense whenever one can.
